Isfahan Hunting Scene Ivory

Isfahan has long been regarded as the apex of Persian court weaving, its ateliers producing some of the most technically refined and iconographically rich carpets in the Islamic world — the hunting carpet tradition in particular traces directly to the royal Safavid workshops of the sixteenth century. This piece presents a classic shikargah or hunting-ground composition on a luminous antique ivory field: mounted figures on horseback engage lions and deer amid a dense, swirling profusion of peonies, roses, cloud-bands, and exotic birds rendered in a restrained palette of rose pink, sage green, dusty blue, and warm caramel, all held within a narrow repeating floral border with a delicate guard stripe and hand-knotted fringe finish. Available as a bespoke made-to-order piece in sizes ranging from 3×5 ft up to 12×18 ft, this design carries the narrative weight and visual complexity of a classical Persian miniature painting translated into textile form — a collector's composition equally at home as a wall hanging or a centrepiece in a formal interior.
