Qom Medallion Floral Black
Qom, Iran — regarded as the spiritual and artistic apex of Persian silk weaving — has for centuries produced work of unrivalled fineness, where the density of knotting transforms floral draftsmanship into something closer to illuminated manuscript than textile. This piece replicates the quintessential Qom aesthetic in a machine-made construction on a jute foundation, offered as a bespoke made-to-order format available from 3×5 ft through to 12×18 ft, with 91×152 cm serving as a representative entry size. The composition is anchored by a multi-tiered starburst rosette at its absolute centre, radiating outward into a dramatic pointed-lobe medallion cartouche whose boundary is traced in vivid turquoise blue — a hallmark Qom accent — against a deep midnight black field. That field is saturated with symmetrically arranged curvilinear arabesque vines bearing peony clusters, lotus blooms, and delicate palmette leaves rendered in antique gold, warm rose, and sage green, the whole held in precise bilateral mirror symmetry. The layered border system deploys a broad warm-brown outer guard dense with rose and gold florals, a narrow ivory fillet, and a repeating rosette inner guard, all of which contain and resolve the central drama without competing with it. Ivory fringe at both ends punctuates the terminus. A rug of this disposition commands a room through restraint as much as richness — the black ground absorbs light while the gold and turquoise accents ignite it, making it as suited to a formal reception space as to a contemplative private study.
