Qom Prayer Arch Ivory
Qom (Qum), Iran, has long been regarded as the apex of Persian fine weaving, producing prayer rugs of unrivalled pictorial refinement — the city's silk and silk-foundation pieces are benchmarks of compositional precision and chromatic restraint against which all other Persian prayer formats are measured. This piece presents the classic Qom mihrab formula in its most architecturally elaborate register: a triple-arched prayer niche rendered in mosaic cobalt and teal tilework recedes in layered perspective toward a pendant mosque lamp, while the ivory field below is animated by a monumental central vase — rendered in blue enamel with gilt detailing — from which cascade dense sprays of peonies, roses, wisteria, and leafing vines in rose, blush, and sage; flanking column pedestals carry secondary vases that anchor the lateral composition with bilateral precision. The dark navy spandrel header above the arch is filled with a separate register of blooming lotus and peony clusters, creating a distinct visual sky to the garden below, while the outer border deploys a creamy ground of continuous arabesque scrollwork punctuated by floral rosettes within a dark inner guard stripe. Available as a bespoke, made-to-order piece from 3×5 ft to 12×18 ft, this design carries the meditative gravity of the prayer hall into any interior that demands both symbolic depth and decorative authority.
