Qum Medallion Floral Crimson
Qum, situated south of Tehran on the edge of the central Iranian plateau, is renowned for producing some of the finest and most intricately knotted Persian rugs in existence — its weavers historically favoured pure silk and exceptionally high knot densities, yielding compositions of jewel-like precision that have commanded the attention of serious collectors since the early twentieth century. This piece presents a classic Qum-derived medallion composition rendered in a deeply saturated crimson field that recedes behind an all-over dispersal of blush and dusty-rose peonies, their foliage in muted sage and olive providing tonal relief; at the centre, a multi-lobed shamsa medallion unfolds through layered ogival cartouches, each filled with densely packed floral clusters, culminating in a lotus core rendered in an unexpected powder blue and ivory that draws the eye with quiet authority. The surrounding midnight navy border carries a continuous reciprocal vine of stylised roses and palmettes, contained by narrow ivory and gilt guard stripes, while short ivory fringe at the terminals signals the weave's formal terminus. Available as a bespoke, made-to-order piece across a range of sizes from 3×5 ft through to 12×18 ft, this design translates with equal conviction at intimate and architectural scales. It brings the measured grandeur of a classical Persian interior — ordered, botanically rich, and unhurried — to any setting that warrants that quality of attention.
