Qum Medallion Floral Navy

Qum — established as a weaving centre in the early twentieth century yet heir to the full breadth of classical Persian court tradition — is celebrated above all cities for its jewel-like precision, extraordinarily fine knot density, and the luminous, almost liquid quality of its silk-foundation pieces that have made Qum rugs among the most collected in the world. This hand-knotted example, offered as a bespoke made-to-order commission in sizes from 3×5 ft through to 12×18 ft (with 91×152 cm as a representative format), is worked on a jute foundation and presents a midnight-navy central field anchored by a large multi-petalled lotus rosette medallion from which four cusped cartouche points extend — a composition unmistakably rooted in the Safavid court aesthetic. The field is alive with tightly scrolling vines bearing full-bloom roses, dahlias, and Shah Abbasi palmettes rendered in rose pink, camel gold, and accents of clear turquoise blue that lift the palette from sombre to luminous; cloud-band (chi) tendrils in sky blue trace the field edges, adding dynamic movement. A broad ivory main border carries a classical arabesque-and-palmette meander flanked by narrow reciprocal guard stripes, while a second inner border panel in warm camel gold introduces a secondary floral register that frames the field with architectural clarity. Ivory fringe finishes both ends. Pieces of this compositional density and chromatic balance occupy the precise intersection of everyday use and serious collecting, carrying a formal gravity that commands a dedicated wall or the centre of a room furnished with intention.
