Anatolia's weaving legacy spans millennia, its hand-knotted traditions producing some of the most technically accomplished and culturally layered textiles in the Islamic world, prized for their synthesis of nomadic geometry and Ottoman court refinement.
This new 160x236 cm wool piece — hand-knotted in Turkey — presents a deliberately distressed interpretation of the classical Anatolian medallion format: a circular floral centerpiece anchored at mid-field, rendered in ivory and charcoal against a slate grey ground that has been abrash-washed to simulate decades of patrician wear, the field dissolving into ghostly arabesque and foliate fragments as it recedes toward the borders, which are defined by crisp geometric chevron-and-latch-hook banding in near-black. The controlled erosion of the pattern gives the piece a quality more akin to a palimpsest than a decorative object — one that carries the weight of antique precedent while speaking entirely to the contemporary interior.
