The contemporary distressed aesthetic draws its vocabulary from the great classical carpet traditions of Persia — Kashan, Isfahan, and Tabriz — deliberately deconstructing their formal medallion and floral grammar into an eroded, painterly language that Western and European design houses have mastered over the past two decades.
This 160x236 cm wool piece presents an open silver-grey field that functions almost as a washed canvas, across which layers of deep plum, burnt rust, and amber ochre drift in loose diagonal masses, evoking the natural patina of a centuries-worn antique rather than a calculated ornament.
Fragments of a classical Persian border survive along the perimeter — rosette cartouches, geometric fret bands, and vine-scroll traces — rendered half-dissolved as though reclaimed by time, while a ghostly central field suggests a medallion composition that has been deliberately allowed to dissolve into the background weave. A restrained teal accent surfaces mid-field, anchoring the warm palette and preventing the rust and plum tones from overwhelming the composition.
