The tradition of bold, large-scale botanical repeat design emerged strongly in mid-twentieth-century Scandinavian and Western modernist decorative arts before being adopted by the Indian hand-tufted rug industry, which refined the genre into a technically accomplished genre of its own — prized for its ability to render graphic, sculptural surface relief in fine wool pile.
This square 213x213 cm piece, new and unworn, is structured around an all-over field of oversized concentric floral circles — each bloom resolved as a series of tonal graduated rings radiating outward from a scalloped cloud-carved rosette at its core, the rings shifting from pale blush white through soft lavender and dove grey to a deeper charcoal mauve at the outer arcs.
The pile appears cut-and-loop or sculptured, lending the motifs a three-dimensional relief quality that deepens the tonal contrast between ring bands. There is no formal border; the pattern bleeds to the edge in an unframed, seamless repeat, with partial circles cropped at all four sides. The palette is entirely achromatic-violet — a considered monochromatic study in lavender, grey, and white with no contrasting accent — giving the composition a singular atmospheric restraint. A piece that anchors a quiet, considered interior with understated graphic confidence rather than decorative noise.
