Contemporary hand-tufted production from India's studio rug industry — which since the 1980s has refined the art of sculptural pile manipulation into a discipline rivalling decorative woven traditions — represents a confluence of modernist design sensibility and subcontinental craft precision.
This piece, in new and unmarked condition, presents an uninterrupted field of warm linen wool traversed by approximately twenty-five horizontal wave lines rendered in raised cut-pile taupe, the undulating cords sitting proud of the flat surrounding ground to create a quietly dramatic bas-relief topography; there is no border, no medallion, and no fringe — the composition is entirely concerned with rhythm, repetition, and the interplay of light across two tonal registers of the same neutral family.
The mood is one of controlled restraint — a piece that anchors a considered interior without competing with it, equally at home beneath a mid-century seating arrangement or in a pared-back contemporary bedroom where texture is the primary decorative language.
