The Indo-Nepali weaving tradition — forged in the Himalayan foothills and refined through decades of collaborative craftsmanship between Tibetan refugees and Indian master weavers — is celebrated for its masterful manipulation of pile height to create sculptural, relief-carved surfaces of remarkable tactile depth.
This piece presents an expansive allover composition in which robust peony and cabbage-rose blooms, lobed acanthus leaves, and sinuous vine scrolls unfurl continuously across a cool, flat steel-blue wool ground, the botanical motifs executed entirely in a raised antique gold pile that carries a subtle silk-like lustre, amplifying the carved contrast between field and pattern.
There is no formal border to contain the design — the flora push to the very edges of the rug in an unbounded, living-garden manner that reads as distinctly contemporary while drawing from classical Mughal and Renaissance herbaceous traditions. The palette is restrained to two tones only, which disciplines the composition and gives the piece an architectural clarity rarely achieved in allover floral work.
