The Indo-Nepali hand-knotted tradition, which emerged from a fusion of Tibetan knotting techniques and Indian workshop discipline, is distinguished by its exceptionally dense wool pile sourced from Himalayan highland fleece and its facility with bold, graphic contemporary interpretations of classical motifs.
This new 183x264 cm piece presents an unbordered field of continuous vine scroll — sinuous ivory stems branch and curl freely across a deep jet-black ground, each tendril terminating in small, precisely clipped oval leaves arranged with a natural yet disciplined rhythm.
The absence of a formal border and the high-contrast two-tone palette of stark black and crisp ivory give the composition a graphic authority more akin to fine textile art than conventional carpet design, while the hand-knotted wool construction lends the surface a subtle relief and warmth that photographs cannot fully convey. The piece carries a quiet, assured intensity — at once modern and botanically rooted — suited to interior spaces that favour considered restraint over decorative excess.
