Nepal Geometric Lattice Burgundy

Nepal's Kathmandu Valley has emerged as a preeminent center for contemporary hand-knotted rugs, where Tibetan weaving traditions merge with modern European design sensibilities to produce pieces of exceptional technical refinement and artistic restraint. This new example presents a rich burgundy field rendered in striated wool that creates subtle tonal variation across the surface, punctuated by six cream compartments arranged in an asymmetrical configuration—two at the upper corners, a central quartet, and two partial squares at the lower edge. Each compartment contains an interlocking ring motif in muted terracotta and sage tones, suggestive of chain links or stylized Celtic knotwork, providing geometric counterpoint to the expansive monochromatic ground. The absence of traditional borders allows the composition to breathe with contemporary spatial freedom, while the hand-knotted Tibetan highland wool ensures lasting resilience. A piece of quiet architectural presence, suited to interiors where modernist restraint and artisanal integrity are equally valued.
