Pakistani Gabbeh Horizontal Stripe Olive

Pakistan's carpet-weaving provinces, drawing on the nomadic Gabbeh tradition transplanted from southwestern Iran, have refined a vocabulary of elemental abstraction — bold fields, raw colour, and an intentional looseness of hand that distinguishes tribal expression from courtly precision. This new, hand-knotted wool Gabbeh, measuring 183x283 cm, presents a composition of striking graphic clarity: a warm, moss-inflected olive-brown ground hosts seven horizontal bands that alternate between deep madder crimson and undyed ivory, each bar deliberately offset in length rather than spanning the full width, creating an asymmetric, staggered rhythm that recalls the improvisational instinct of the weaver's eye rather than a mechanically imposed grid. The palette is austere yet rich — the crimson carries the saturated depth of natural dye tradition, the ivory retains the organic warmth of unbleached wool, and the olive field reads differently under incandescent and natural light, shifting between khaki and amber. A single narrow crimson terminal stripe anchors the lower border without elaboration. This is a piece that commands a room through restraint — suited to interiors where architectural line and material warmth are in dialogue, and where a rug is understood as an object of considered making rather than decoration.
