The contemporary Persian workshop tradition — rooted in centuries-old centres such as Tabriz and Isfahan — has in recent decades produced a significant body of work that reinterprets classical motifs through a modernist lens, earning serious attention from architects and collectors alike. This large-format piece presents a slate grey wool field suffused with scattered antique gold and warm amber impressions, the pattern derived from traditional Persian floral arabesques and palmette scrollwork that have been deliberately abraded and dissolved into the ground — a technique known as the 'erased' or 'distressed' aesthetic — so that the ornament reads as luminous residue rather than explicit decoration; the faint cruciform axis suggests the ghost of a classical medallion composition, while the border treatment is intentionally suppressed to allow the field to breathe as a near-seamless plane of tone and texture, finished with a fine grey fringe at the lower end.
