Bijar, woven in the Kurdish highlands of Iran's Kurdistan Province, is universally regarded as the most structurally formidable of all Persian rugs — its exceptionally dense weft-packing produces a rigid, almost board-like handle that resists wear and retains pile definition across generations, earning it the enduring epithet 'the iron rug of Persia.'
This piece presents in excellent new condition and measures a generous 213×305 cm, its expansive field saturated in deep madder-crimson and populated with an uninterrupted all-over Herati repeat — the mahi lattice of serrated leaves, rosette florets, and curvilinear fish motifs rendered with the precise, tight knotting characteristic of Bijar workmanship.
A central elongated diamond medallion in midnight navy punctuates the field, its interior dressed with delicate floral sprays in ivory and dusty rose that provide tonal relief against the surrounding warmth of the ground. The multi-band border system is anchored by a deep indigo main border carrying scrolling palmette vines, flanked by ivory guard stripes with refined reciprocal blossom running patterns — the border treatment exhibiting the confident, unhurried draftsmanship that separates genuine Kurdish Bijar production from lesser imitations.
