Kashan All-Over Floral Navy

Kashan, situated in the Isfahan Province of central Iran, is among the most celebrated weaving centres in the Persian carpet tradition, its looms producing work of exceptional fineness, structural integrity, and chromatic sophistication since at least the Safavid era. This large-format hand-knotted wool carpet presents a densely composed all-over field of curvilinear Shah Abbasi palmettes, scrolling arabesque vines, and layered rosettes rendered in antique gold and madder red against a ground of deep, saturated navy — a tonality historically associated with the finest Kashan commercial production of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The central field sustains a continuous organic rhythm without a dominant medallion, the vine lattice expanding uniformly to all four corners with admirable discipline, while the border system deploys a principal ivory-ground floral meander flanked by narrow red and blue guard stripes of classical reciprocal pattern, anchoring the composition with measured restraint. The pile carries a lustrous wool with the characteristic soft sheen of quality Kashan merino, and the colour distribution — navy deepening toward the upper register, gold warming the lower — suggests either deliberate directional shading or the gentle patination of considered age.
