Mamluk Heriz All-Over Steel Blue

The Heriz weaving district of northwestern Iran has produced some of the most structurally robust and visually commanding carpets in the Persian tradition, prized for their bold geometric interpretation of classical floral motifs and the characteristic use of angular, architecturally confident line work that distinguishes them from the curvilinear schools of Isfahan or Kashan.

This new hand-knotted wool carpet presents an all-over field composition on an uncommonly cool steel blue ground — a palette departure from the traditional terracotta-dominant Heriz spectrum — where evenly distributed geometric rosettes radiate in polychrome bursts of saffron yellow, madder red, ivory, sage green, and burnt orange, each bloom rendered with the characteristic angularity of the northwest Persian loom.

The all-over repeat follows a disciplined lattice logic without a central medallion, allowing the eye to travel continuously across the field in the manner of Mamluk-influenced scatter compositions. The border system is structured around a wide navy main border populated with alternating palmettes and scrolling vine work, flanked by narrow madder red guard stripes that contain the composition with crisp authority. The fringe finish at both ends is intact and even, consistent with new production of considered quality.
