Nain Medallion Navy

Nain, situated in the Isfahan province of central Iran, rose to prominence as a weaving centre in the mid-twentieth century, producing carpets of exceptional fineness characterised by their cool, aristocratic palettes and densely woven floral compositions derived from classical Safavid court traditions. This large-format piece presents a formal central star medallion rendered in ivory and soft gold against a field of deep midnight navy, the surrounding ground saturated with an unbroken arabesque of lotus palmettes, split-leaf scrolls, and delicate rosettes woven with the precision typical of Nain's finest workshops; the ivory main border carries a disciplined scrolling vine with floral terminals, framed by narrow guard stripes in dusty blue and cream that complete the hierarchical composition. Measured at 268 by 366 centimetres, this rug commands a room with the quiet authority of a scholarly heirloom — formal without severity, intricate without restlessness.
