Pakistani Medallion Floral Navy

Pakistani hand-knotted weaving from the workshops of Lahore and Peshawar carries a centuries-old lineage rooted in Mughal court patronage, where Persian classical design vocabulary was absorbed and refined into a tradition renowned for dense pile, tightly spun wool, and exceptional chromatic depth. This piece presents in new condition with a deep midnight navy field that functions as a rich ground for an expansive all-over composition of peony clusters, lotus blossoms, and feathery leaf arabesques radiating outward from a lobed ivory and terracotta medallion at its centre — the medallion itself framed by a secondary pointed cartouche and flanked by pendant motifs that anchor the vertical axis with architectural precision. The palette moves through dusty rose, sage green, muted terracotta, and ivory against the near-black indigo ground, lending the surface a jewelled, stratified quality reminiscent of Tabriz workshop production. An ivory main border carries a continuous palmette-and-vine scroll between narrow geometric rosette guards, the outermost edge finished with a dark navy binding and short knotted fringe on the short ends. Scholarly in its draftsmanship and meditative in its density, this rug brings the quiet authority of classical Persian court design to a contemporary interior without apology.
