Peshawar Ziegler All-Over Rust

The Peshawar weaving tradition draws upon centuries of Ziegler design heritage, where 19th-century European merchants commissioned Afghan and Pakistani weavers to produce rugs with softened palettes and graceful botanical patterns suited to Western interiors — today these hand-knotted pieces remain prized for their vegetable-dyed wool and deliberate patina.

This new example presents a luminous terracotta rust field populated with an elegant all-over arrangement of stylized palmettes, split arabesques, and sinuous vine scrollwork rendered in soft gold, sage green, and ivory tones; the wide ivory border frames the composition with a complementary procession of lotus blossoms and serrated foliage, bounded by narrow guard stripes in warm ochre. A rug of quiet warmth and refined presence, suited to formal living spaces where understated elegance and enduring craftsmanship are valued.
