This hand-knotted wool carpet presents a classical Tabriz medallion composition rendered on a deep terracotta-madder field — a lobed, ivory-ground central medallion intricately filled with pale blue floral tracery and crimson rosettes, from which pendant cartouches descend along the vertical axis, the surrounding field animated by densely scattered polychrome floral sprays, curling arabesques, and palmette clusters in sage green, gold, and muted cobalt that prevent the eye from resting without rewarding it.
The main border is anchored in a rich navy ground carrying large-scale scrolling acanthus and Shah Abbasi palmettes in ivory and gold, flanked by narrow guard borders on an ivory field with reciprocating floral vines, the entire composition exhibiting the balanced asymmetry and naturalistic drawing precision that distinguishes Tabriz commercial workshop production from tribal derivatives.
