This large-format piece presents a classically articulated medallion composition on an expansive ivory ground — the elongated central medallion, rendered in soft steel blue with lobed cartouche edges and pendant extensions, anchors a field animated by freely dispersed curvilinear vine scrolls, shah abbasi palmettes, rosettes, and multi-petalled lotus blossoms in a restrained palette of dusty blue, terracotta, and charcoal against warm ivory; the corner spandrels echo the medallion's vocabulary, creating the characteristic fourfold symmetry of the Tabriz idiom, while the border system — a deeper taupe-brown ground carrying a continuous palmette-and-arabesque meander between two narrow reciprocal guard stripes — frames the composition with measured authority; the wool pile shows an overall abrash of gentle tonal variation that lends the ivory field an organic, lived-in luminosity consistent with quality Tabriz production.
