Tabriz, the historic capital of Iranian Azerbaijan, stands as one of the great epicentres of classical Persian weaving — its ateliers synonymous with finely articulated arabesques, precise medallion compositions, and a colour sophistication that has commanded the admiration of collectors and institutions alike since the Safavid era.
This antique circular piece, measuring 244x244 cm, presents a commanding octagonal medallion at its centre, rendered in concentric rings of champagne ivory and warm gold with a delicate rosette at its heart, set against a richly toned mocha-brown field animated by dense, fluid arabesque scrollwork — interweaving palmette sprays, acanthus tendrils, and scattered circular floral roundels that maintain perfect radial symmetry across the full round format.
The palette is restrained yet warm: dusty rose accents punctuate the ivory highlights, while passages of sage green lend botanical relief against the deep ground, all softened by the patination of age into a harmonious, muted chorus. The main border carries a vigorous vine-and-leaf meander in ivory and gold, framed by narrow guard stripes that contain the composition with disciplined elegance, and the piece retains its original white fringe, intact and characteristic.
