This hand-knotted wool piece presents a commanding all-over diagonal lattice across a deep crimson ground, the interlocking framework enclosing rows of stepped diamond medallions alternating with stylized hooked cross forms and schematic botanical devices rendered in midnight navy, warm ivory, and camel — a palette consistent with natural dye traditions of the eastern Caucasus.
The field is animated by subtle tonal variation in the red ground, indicative of abrash, lending it organic depth rather than flat uniformity.
