Hamadan Tribal Medallion Crimson

RM 1,900

The Hamadan weaving region of western Iran — encompassing dozens of villages across the Zagros foothills — has produced some of the most honest and characterful tribal work in the Persian canon, each piece reflecting the distinct hand of its village workshop within a tradition stretching back centuries.

This hand-knotted wool rug presents a boldly drawn elongated hexagonal medallion in midnight navy, suspended on a saturated crimson field alive with scattered tribal rosette clusters rendered in navy, ivory, and saffron, their cross-stitch detailing betraying the unhurried hand of a village weaver; pendant diamond cartouches anchor the medallion north and south, while the expansive ivory border opens into a naive pictorial register — horses, standing human figures, deer, and geometric floral wheels distributed with the unself-conscious confidence typical of Hamadan village work.

The border is contained by a tightly wound rope-twist guard in amber and a dark outer frame that gives the composition structural weight. A piece of robust tribal character with genuine pictorial naivety, suited to a space that rewards close looking over decorative restraint.
