Kazak Medallion Runner Steel Blue

The Kazak weaving tradition, rooted in the high plateaus of the Caucasus and perpetuated with remarkable fidelity by Afghan craftsmen in the Caucasian-revival style, is distinguished by bold geometric architecture, saturated tribal palettes, and a structural density that lends each piece exceptional durability and visual authority.

This runner — woven new in hand-knotted wool — presents a vertical repeat of alternating large eight-pointed star medallions and compressed lozenge cartouches arranged along a cool silver-grey field, the medallions built up in concentric layers of forest green, ivory, burgundy, and navy with characteristic Kazak stepped petal geometry; small hooked cross motifs punctuate the field between each medallion, preserving the animated energy typical of high-Caucasian village work.

The main border is a wide turquoise-blue band carrying a scrolling palmette and serrated-leaf vine in coral, green, and ivory, contained by narrow reciprocal guard stripes that sharpen the composition without competing with the field.
