The Luri tribes of the Zagros Mountains in southwestern Iran have produced some of the most viscerally expressive hand-knotted weavings in the Persian canon — their work distinguished by an uninhibited use of saturated color, bold geometric draftsmanship, and a vital spontaneity that formal court traditions could never replicate.
This piece presents a commanding stepped hexagonal medallion built in successive layers of midnight navy, near-black brown, and teal, anchored at its heart by a cream diamond reserve populated with crimson rosettes — the whole medallion floating on a field of high-keyed crimson that resonates with the intensity characteristic of Luri natural dye practice.
Scattered across the open ground below the medallion are individualistic botanical sprays — long-stemmed tulips and stylized rosette heads rendered in cobalt, saffron, and teal — interspersed with small tribal animal and geometric filler motifs that speak to the weaver's narrative instinct rather than any formal cartoon. A secondary elongated navy pendant descends from the medallion toward the lower field, anchoring the composition vertically, while the ivory border is structured with reciprocal vine and stylized leaf elements held between dark guard stripes with a row of small geometric flowers along the inner guard. The rug carries the raw magnetic authority of genuine tribal weaving — suited to a space that can absorb a piece of real cultural weight.
