Malayir All-Over Herati Navy

The village weavers of Malayir, nestled within Iran's Hamadan weaving corridor, are celebrated for their robust wool pile, saturated vegetable-dye palettes, and faithful perpetuation of the herati lattice — one of the most enduring compositional grammars in the entire Persian tribal canon. This runner presents an uninterrupted all-over field of the classic fish-and-rosette herati pattern set against a ground of deep, almost lacquer-like midnight navy, the lattice rendered in warm ivory and coral lines that create a luminous dimensional quality across the surface; punctuating the grid at every intersection are multi-petalled rosettes in madder red, dusty rose, and saffron gold, while angular palmette forms and stylised leaf sprays animate the interstices with restless energy. The border system is composed of a wide main guard in crimson displaying a vigorous vine-and-blossom scroll, flanked by narrow reciprocal meander guards in ivory and gold that firmly contain the field's density without diminishing it. At the lower terminus the pattern shifts subtly in scale — a characteristic of authentic village production where the weaver works from memory rather than a cartoon — lending this piece the idiosyncratic vitality that separates tribal work from atelier production.
