The Qashqai confederacy of Fars Province in southwestern Iran represents one of the most vital and unbroken tribal weaving traditions in the world — their rugs are prized for fierce chromatic intensity, bold geometric architecture, and an untamed vitality that no urban atelier has ever successfully replicated.
This piece presents a commanding elongated hexagonal medallion in deep crimson, its latch-hooked edges articulated in ivory and saffron, centering a cobalt blue octagon enclosing a four-petal rosette — the whole composition set against a near-black midnight navy ground teeming with abstracted boteh-like hook forms, stylized floral sprays, and small zoomorphic silhouettes characteristic of Qashqai nomadic iconography; the field is contained within a bold stepped red inner border densely filled with the tribe's signature reciprocating motifs, flanked by ivory guard stripes bearing running geometric devices, and a further black outer border that anchors the palette with authority; the lower half of the composition introduces a second pendant medallion descending into a subsidiary diamond finial, lending the design an asymmetric vitality consistent with hand-woven tribal production rather than workshop reproduction.
