Qashqai Tribal Medallion Crimson

The Qashqai tribal weavers of Fars Province, Iran, are among the most celebrated nomadic craftspeople in the rug world, producing pieces of raw geometric vitality whose bold palette and totemic imagery reflect centuries of migratory pastoral life across the Zagros Mountains. This hand-knotted wool rug presents a deep crimson field populated by a vertical procession of five principal medallions — a dominant central hexagonal form flanked symmetrically by two pairs of satellite medallions, each set on angular indigo-navy grounds edged with characteristic claw-hook and stepped-tooth borders; within the medallions, ivory-outlined diamond forms carry saffron, orange, and green detailing, while scattered between the medallions are stylised floral sprigs, small cruciform filler motifs, and what appear to be abstracted animal silhouettes consistent with Qashqai tribal iconography. The border system is restrained — a narrow reciprocal guard stripe in crimson and navy at the top transitions to a broader ivory-ground outer border at the base filled with alternating leaf-and-bud palmette forms in dark plum and forest green, anchoring the composition with a note of classical order. A piece of concentrated tribal energy that reads with authority in both intimate and architecturally ambitious interiors.
