Sarouk rugs originate from the village of Saruk near Arak in northwest Iran, where master weavers have produced some of Persia's most elegant and durable carpets since the late 19th century. Renowned for their exceptional quality, refined floral designs, and rich color palettes, Sarouk rugs became highly sought after in Western markets throughout the 20th century.
This exquisite hand-knotted Sarouk rug features a stunning central floral medallion in cream, gold, and navy blue set against a rich burgundy-red field, exemplifying the classic Persian medallion format. The ornate centerpiece displays elaborate palmette and lotus flower motifs surrounded by delicate curving vines and floral sprays that flow organically across the field. The corner spandrels mirror the medallion's intricate floral vocabulary, creating perfect symmetry and visual balance characteristic of refined Persian design. The wide navy blue border showcases a continuous arabesque pattern of intertwining vines, palmettes, and rosettes in cream, rust, and coral tones, framed by multiple decorative guard stripes.
