Ziegler Sultanabad Floral Runner Camel
The Sultanabad weaving tradition, refined under the Ziegler & Co. commercial commissions of late 19th-century Persia, produced some of the most architecturally versatile and chromatically sophisticated carpets in the Oriental canon — characterised by open fields, naturalistic floral drawing, and a palette softened to complement Western interiors.
This new hand-knotted wool runner presents a warm camel field upon which a central vine scroll ascends the full length of the format, anchored at the base by a vase motif from which curvilinear branches radiate symmetrically, bearing palmette rosettes, sunflower heads, and multi-petal blooms rendered in madder red, cobalt blue, gold, sage green, and ivory — a palette of deliberate restraint punctuated by jewel-toned accents.
The border system employs a terracotta-ground floral meander with reciprocal rosette guards, framing the composition with the classic layered treatment associated with the Ziegler atelier. The piece carries the unhurried, garden-room authority of a classic Persian runner — one that rewards prolonged acquaintance and suits both period and contemporary interiors of considered taste.
