Antique Kirman Turquoise

Kerman rugs originate from the historic city of Kerman in southeastern Iran, one of the oldest and most prestigious carpet weaving centers in Persia. For over 500 years, Kerman has been renowned for producing some of the finest Persian carpets, characterized by elaborate floral designs, exceptional craftsmanship, and superior wool quality. Antique Kerman rugs from the late 19th and early 20th centuries are particularly prized for their intricate patterns, high knot density, and use of natural dyes including cochineal, indigo, and madder root. This semi-antique piece reinterprets a classic Kirman floral field through a hand-applied overdyed finish, revealing layers of pattern beneath a rich teal-green patina. The softened contrasts and visible wear give it a lived-in, contemporary feel while preserving the refinement of its original design.
