Kashan Medallion Crimson
Kashan has stood at the apex of Persian carpet weaving for over five centuries, its workshops synonymous with uncompromising technical refinement, lustrous Kork wool pile, and a classical vocabulary of curvilinear arabesque that has defined the aesthetic language of the Oriental rug tradition worldwide.
This large-format piece presents the quintessential Kashan medallion composition: a lobed, pointed oval centrepiece set against a midnight navy ground at the rug's heart, from which dense palmette-and-arabesque tracery radiates outward across an expansive crimson field — the saturated madder red characteristic of high-grade Kashan dyeing — punctuated throughout by shah abbasi rosettes, lotus blossoms, and sinuous vine scrolls rendered in gold, sky blue, olive, and ivory.
The wide main border deploys an ivory ground populated with flowing floral sprays and cartouches, framed by narrow geometric guard stripes in gold and blue that tighten the composition with precision. The pile presents an even, full surface consistent with a new production piece woven to the classical Kashan standard. This is a rug of considered gravitas — equally at home anchoring a formal reception room or serving as the centrepiece of a serious collection.
