Kashan Medallion Floral Navy

Kashan has stood for over four centuries as Persia's foremost workshop city for court-quality pile weaving, its carpets distinguished by supremely fine knotting, disciplined arabesque geometry, and a palette that balances depth with luminosity.

This large-format piece presents the canonical Kashan composition at its most resolved: a circular rosette medallion centred on a field of deep midnight navy, from which twin pendant drops descend along the vertical axis, the entire ground then consumed by an unbroken lattice of interlacing vines bearing Shah Abbasi palmettes, lotus heads, and serrated lancet leaves rendered in ivory, powder blue, and restrained burgundy accents that prevent the dense patterning from ever feeling heavy.

The border system is classically layered — a narrow reciprocal-meander guard, a tighter floral fillet, and a wide main band populated with large alternating palmette cartouches on a medium cobalt ground — the whole sequence framed by cream selvage that lifts the composition cleanly from the floor. At 305 × 396 cm, the scale amplifies the meditative repetition of the arabesque, and the cool, aristocratic blue palette gives the room it occupies an unmistakable gravitas.
