Ziegler Oushak Allover Midnight Blue

The Ziegler-Oushak tradition, refined in the workshops of Peshawar under 19th-century European commercial patronage and rooted in the grand weaving heritage of western Anatolia, produced carpets prized for their painterly softness, generous scale, and an instinctive harmony between field and border that few regional traditions have matched.

This hand-knotted wool carpet presents an expansive all-over composition on a deep, slightly heathered midnight navy ground — a tonality achieved through careful abrash in the wool that lends the field a living, atmospheric depth — across which large sunburst palmette rosettes in burnt orange, ivory, and terracotta are scattered with deliberate asymmetry alongside smaller peony and lotus heads, delicate botanical sprigs, and sinuous curvilinear vine connections in camel and cobalt blue.

The wide ivory border is animated by a continuous floral meander of comparable richness, with small angular geometric fillers at the corners and a fine reciprocal guard stripe that frames the composition with restraint. The overall palette — cool navy anchored by warm terracotta and tempered by ivory — exhibits the characteristic Ziegler balance between tribal vitality and decorative refinement, and the generous 180×269 cm format ensures the design reads at scale without crowding. A piece of considered graphic intelligence, it carries the quiet authority of a room-defining object rather than a decorative accessory.
