What makes a tribal rug
Tribal and village rugs are woven by nomadic and rural families rather than city workshops, usually from memory rather than a drawn plan. The result is stronger geometry, thicker wool and small irregularities that give each rug its character — the opposite of a mass-produced carpet.
Our tribal collection includes Afghan Balochi and Ersari rugs, Turkmen Tekke and Bokhara designs, Persian village weaves from Hamadan, Bakhtiari and Qashqai, and vintage Turkish and Kazak pieces. They suit traditional homes and pared-back modern interiors alike, where one strong rug can anchor the whole room.
Questions we’re often asked
Are your tribal rugs new or vintage?
Both. The collection includes newer hand-knotted pieces alongside vintage and antique rugs, and the age of each rug is listed on its page.
Do tribal rugs work in a modern home?
Very well. The simple geometry and earthy colours of a tribal rug sit naturally with concrete, timber and plain upholstery, and add warmth to a minimal room without fighting the furniture.
Is a tribal rug durable enough for a living room?
Yes. Tribal rugs are woven from thick, hard-wearing wool for daily use, and they handle foot traffic, children and pets well. Regular vacuuming and a professional wash every few years keep them in good condition.
